Hang In There
Much his best run when winning Grade 2 novice at Cheltenham in November 2019, keen, mistake 2nd, led 3rd, in close to 4th, clear 5th, was joined up front approaching 2 out, opened up a lead again jumping and moved best of the field approaching home turn, stayed on whilst not hard ridden approaching last, jumped slightly right and led 3 lengths, put under pressure entering final furlong, stayed on well last 150 yards, maintained clear lead, decisively beat Pacify; beaten when fell last time out in Sidney Banks at Huntingdon in February behind Shishkin. Shouldn’t have a problem staying this trip and further, and not yet exposed
Up The Straight*
Two wins from four over hurdles, with his best performance coming at Kempton in March, held up, keen, a little ground and midfield 5th, mistake 6th, closed on leaders approaching 7th where in close, edged closer still going comfortably and tracked leaders when mistake 3 out, nudged along home turn, niggled along straightening, more firmly pushed along approaching 2 out, effort and drew upsides leader, led jumping, hard driven, drew clear, mistake last, went right under pressure (left-hand whip), driven out, didn’t go further clear but stayed on well enough from Flic Ou Voyou. Needs to tidy up his jumping, but probably more to come from this one
Fleur Irlandaise
Best of only two runs last season when 2nd at Wincanton in March 2020, held up, raced inner, a little keen, headway and prominent in main group 4th, in close to 5th, shuffled back and midfield approaching 6th, mistake, travelled comfortably although worse placed 7th than earlier in the race, headway after 3 out, edged closer approaching home turn, arguably moved best, closed up further nearing 2 out still on the bit, shaken up on landing, hard ridden approaching last, no impression on winner, took 2nd last, pushed out, stayed on one pace last 200 yards. Ridden with kid gloves (rather oddly taken back after going prominent over the 4th and 5th), was against a winner who was ‘on it’ in Earth Moor and couldn’t have done any better on the day. Has claims on his reappearance
Group Stage
Best of two wins at Ludlow last season in January on soft ground, prominent on inner, mistake 3rd, in close to 4th, not asked to improve on long run between 6th and home turn and some 5 lengths off leaders in 5th, edged closer as the turn came nearer, soon niggled along, more firmly pushed along approaching 3 out, drew upsides leader jumping, ridden to challenge approaching 2 out, disputed lead on landing, wandered, half a length down last, put under pressure, led and went badly left under driving badly impeding runner-up, stayed on well to pull clear last 150 yards. Attitude a worry – he continued to go left on the run-in at Ludlow when the jockey stopped using the whip – but there’s a horse in there, and said horse is likely to stay this trip (half-brother to Royal Village and Village Vic)
Much his best run last season when winning at Fontwell in October 2019, led, 2 to 3 lengths clear approaching 2nd, in close to 3rd and headed, definite lead again 4th, mistake 3 out, moved largely comfortably turning out of back straight and on home turn, pushed along approaching 2 out, hard ridden between last 2, stayed on, was closed on approaching last, hard driven, headed 200 yards out, rallied, led again 100 yards out, drew clear last strides – greater resolution than runner-up Empreinte Reconce winning the day. No form since, returning with a tailed-off at Fontwell in August,  ridden along 7th, held place and every chance 3 out, soon firmly pushed along, hard ridden and held place home turn, lost place approaching 2 out, steadied into it and in close, weakened between last 2 behind Chapmanshype. Should stay this far (half-brother to Minella Warrior) but has no form over it – best run saw him weakening before and after last at Kempton over 2m5f last November – and for me best watched
Doesn’t do winning – last victory in March 2018 – but ran well at Sandown a couple of times in good 2m handicap hurdles last season, including behind Mack The Man in December, held up one from last and niggled along early, relegated to last 2nd and niggled again, more firmly pushed along when started a move 5th, had made little ground by 3 out, started to pass rivals turning out of back straight and noted headway into midfield by home turn, continued to make ground approaching 2 out, hung right and not stay on between last 2, looked held last, no more run-in; then behind Mill Green in January,  in contention for a place approaching 2 out, ridden within 6 lengths of leader, under a ride when mistake last and weakened. Should get this trip on breeding and tempting at the weights
Miss Tynte
Two wins last season including at Worcester in August 2019 – dropped rear and nudged along 4th, niggled along 5th, headway 7th, prominent going comfortably turning out of back straight, niggled along home turn, drew upsides giong comfortably approaching 2 out, 1st 2 pulled clear, wandered approaching last, led jumping, ridden, stayed on well to pull clear of Kilkeaskin Molly – and at Plumpton over 3m1f in December, travelling better over the longer trip to beat The Wicket Chicken, drawing clear from the home turn and kept up to her work. Not out yet this year, she still looks on a competitive mark
No wins since taking a novice at Newton Abbot in September 2019,  niggled along starting final circuit, tracked leaders approaching 3 out, got a split and challenged leaders approaching turn out of back straight, disputed lead approaching home turn, niggled along turning in, led 2 lengths when mistake 2 out, hard driven, stayed on, some 5 lengths up last, ridden out, workmanlike and unchallenged from Rococo River. Best of two runs in August when 5th to Chapmanshype at Fontwell last time, some 3 lengths down 3 out and soon ridden along, lost place under a strong ride turning out of back straight, stayed on home turn, well held 2 out, faded approaching last, driven run-in, no impression on 1st 3, just lost out in battle for 4th. Looked ungainly as he hit a flat spot turning out of the back straight; slipping in the weights, but this is a stronger race than last time
